Given our passion for the subject, we could fill a whole website
alone with this. However we know that clients generally don’t want to
know what goes on ‘under the bonnet’ – which sometimes can be a
hazardous assumption.
As with any subject, a job can be done well, or it can be done
cheaply and quickly. We don’t believe the latter to benefit anyone. We
firmly believe in building web sites and applications using the best
tried and tested technologies and methodologies around, to ensure that
your project not only gets completed on time and on budget, but also
works with the minimum of fuss, and more importantly carries on working
for some time to come.
We’re passionate believers in Web Standards. Back in the dark days
of the early Internet, the browser war between Microsoft and Netscape
meant that web developers were effectively having to develop two
different sites depending on which browser you used – each manufacturer
coming up with new ‘features’ with each release to differentiate itself
from the other. All this led to was increased costs in project
development, and no forward compatibility to future releases of browser.
Thankfully, Web Standards has changed all that. These are a set of
instructions set out by the W3C, defining a ‘level playing field’
across all major browsers. More importantly, it sets the benchmark for
forward compatibility, which means you will not have to pay to have
your site redesigned for future versions of Internet Explorer, or a new
browser that may come along. It also means that your site will be much
more accessible to wider audiences than before, such as people surfing
the web on PDA devices, or those with sight impairments.
Most of our sites are developed on the Microsoft platform of ASP.NET
and SQL Server. .NET redefined the way the web worked for business,
allowing many different systems to communicate seamlessly without
barrier of Operating System, programming language or protocol. It also
means that your site can be hosted at any .NET web host, without the
worry of extra components being installed. It also means you are freer
than ever before to move your site if you’re not happy with your
current provider.
